5th-Year Coterminal Aerospace Engineering Student, Graduating This Semester
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)
Wind tunnel testing at the University of Southampton, UK
Ever since I was young, I have been building and designing things—whether it was begging my mom to take me to RadioShack for the most random part I needed for a project or asking my grandfather to show me how to make something I had cooked up in my head. I was privileged to know exactly what I wanted to do from an early age. However, over time, my passion for engineering became even more focused—on aerospace.
I had been surrounded by aviation and space ever since I was little, as my dad loves WWII aviation history and along with my mom having an aviation background. Over time, I started to fill my days with flying RC aircraft and even building and competing in scale aircraft model competitions. As the years went on, I became increasingly fascinated with anything that could fly. In addition to aviation, I also grew to love robotics and, more or less, all aspects of engineering.
In high school, I dedicated most of my time and attention to FIRST Robotics, competing throughout my high school years. This experience gave me the confidence and skills I needed to succeed in college. After high school, I moved on to IIT, where I am currently finishing my last semester of my Coterminal Degree in Aerospace Engineering.
Throughout my time at IIT, I have been an active member of my school’s rocketry club, ITR, as the aerodynamics specialist. Additionally, I have spent most of my time as a research assistant for Dr. Williams within the Nato AVT-350 Task Group. During the course of my research, I have designed, manufactured, and tested two tailless delta-wing jets with an active flow control system. This project has expanded my experience globally, as I have been able to test this plane not only in a wind tunnel in England but also in flight in Oregon.
My time at IIT has been filled with skill-advancing classes and invaluable experiences, and I can't wait to continue into my professional career.
Outside of school and engineering, I enjoy a whole host of other activities. In the photo to the right, you can see me sailing just north of downtown Chicago. When I was younger, I attended sailing school for two years in a row on Lake Michigan, where I learned to sail 420 sailboats, and I have enjoyed casual sailing ever since.
I also love exploring different restaurants and consider myself a bit of a foodie. I grew up cooking often and still enjoy it whenever I have the time. Another huge passion of mine is flying RC models, including planes, helicopters, and boats. I have been flying RC planes since I was about six years old and have been a part of my local AMA club and field for as long as I can remember.
Another one of my passions is building and painting scale plastic model aircraft. I also love anything that involves adventure and spontaneity. I often find myself exploring Chicago, searching for new shops and coffee spots to visit.
During my time in Chicago and at IIT, I discovered analog photography and fell in love with capturing moments on film. I got so into 35 mm that I even developed and scanned my own photos in my dorm room.
Overall, I have a lot of hobbies, and I am continuously looking to try new things and explore the world!
